The written test

One of the first steps in our process, after the gathering of information and verification of minimum qualifications, is the written exam.  This test is comprised of a study session where all the material you will be tested on will be presented to you, at which time you will have a specified amount of time to review these items.  After a short lunch break we will reconvene to take the exam.  This exam is multiple choice and consists of questions made up from the materials you were provided in the morning session.

I was asked about study material.  I would suggest reading up on police process exams and talking to those who have participated previously.  Test taking strategy is important for these exams due to the way in which they are administered.  You must, while reviewing the material, decide which portions to devote the majority of your prep time to and which items you are already knowledgeable in so as to maximize the study time allotted.  You must also determine how you will approach those questions that are more time consuming for you during the test session.  This is a timed test and while there is no wrong way to use your time, a little thought about it before hand will allow you to move fluidly through the test without second guessing your strategy for those challenging questions.

Good Luck to you all!  We will have testing dates sent to applicants and posted here in the coming weeks.

More answers.

Typically, we have anywhere from 80-120 applicants in the beginning.  This shrinks quickly once we get going, however.  We do expect to have more than that number to start this process.

Remember, it is important to make sure you are monitoring your email and other sources of contact that you have provided, so as not to miss steps in the process which will lead to applicants missing out on a great opportunity.  Good luck to everyone!

With regards to residency requirements, you may apply and participate in the process regardless of where you live.  The only time living outside Wayne county or an adjacent Indiana county would be a problem is at the time of appointment.  This is after the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.  Once you are offered the position is when you would need to make arrangements to move to the area.

Time Frame Question

Our application gathering period ends on February 15, 2011.  Very soon after this emails and/or standard mail notices will be sent outlining the next steps in the process for those meeting the minimum requirements.  We will also send notification to those who fail to meet the minimum requirements for employment with our department.  The only other hard date we have at this point is we want the list established and in place to begin hiring June 1, 2011.  I hope this answers your question.

Sorry for the delay in response.  I have been decidedly off line for the last few days.  We are going to be hiring up to 6 officers in the upcoming year and the list we establish from this process will last for an additional year.  We will have more openings in the second year, but as of now it is hard to determine how many.  This is definitely the time to apply.
